Sunny or Sun ("tand0c", previously known as "Kate/k8") is a multi-disciplinary artist and animator located in Melbourne, Australia.

Their practice incorporates a combination traditional and digital mediums to explore their identity as a queer Filipinx/o-Australian with lived experience with mental health. Sunny uses gestural mark-making, vivid colours and playful textures to invoke emotion throughout their work. Their passion for pop culture 'pops' up in their work occassionally.Sunny was a grant recipient of VicScreen's Originate Program in 2023 and a Finalist in 2021 for the Midsumma. They were also a Semi-Finalist for AniMate Season 3. Available on itch.ioA day in the life of a depressed cat. Sunny created the character designs and animations.The game with Michelle Chen's Mental Jam. The game produces games in tandem with young people who have lived experience with depression and anxiety.

Meouch was presented at a panel at PAX Aus 2022 and on Channel 7's House of Wellness.

Currently unavailable online.Fragment is an abstract mixed media film about grief and its emptiness that chips away at us.Director's Statement
"Fragment is a personal film that reflects upon my experience of losing someone important to me. Even though that particular experience with grief occurred almost a decade ago, I still feel like a small part of me has been missing."

fairy sharehouse quest

Currently in developmentSunny and Luke Rotella created Fairy Sharehouse Quest in January 2023 during Signal Play. This workshop was a game jam focusing around urban play. Using the Kathleen Syme Library and Community Centre's courtyard, the pair created a game inspired by live action role playing and table top role playing games. The game has also been opened for play at Signal in Northbank.Fairy Sharehouse Quest centres around a fairy living in a sharehouse on a quest to the apothecary. The player must use their storytelling skills and sensory experience to tell stories in exchange for wares.

Challenges Abroad

In January 2020, Sunny worked alongside RMIT and Challenges Abroad in a program that provides art education to primary school aged students in Cambodia. This was to help further develop student's creativity and conversational English skills. Activities include creating characters out of plasticine, creating flipbooks and zines. Sunny alongside Anastasia Beth, Debbie Ward and Carmen La painted a mural for one of Challenge's Abroad's supplementary schools. The students were engaged in the painting process of the mural.

naruto ending 1 reanimated

Currently in developmentNaruto ED1 (Wind) Reanimated is a work in progress passion project. Sunny is reanimating shots from the original ending segment using traditional painting mediums, photography and 2D digital animation tools to create a unique aesthetic.

bumble and bea

Currently unavailable online.Bea and her pet Bee, Bumble, embark on an adventure to retrieve flowers. However, with a change in the weather, they make a fateful encounter. Bumble and Bea is a short film made for Kate's thesis film (2021).Director's Statement
"Bumble and Bea was based on a day trip I had with my sister where we picked sunflowers. It is a love letter to my family/childhood home as the background images of the garden was taken in my parents' garden. The sky photos at the end where taken around the area of the first home I had away from my family."

Bumble and Bea is a Semi-Finalist at AniMate Season 3 and High Commended at the Very Short Film Festival. The film was also featured in Lido Short Stack and Gems Zine Issue 22.

1-bit Picrew

Sunny created assets for a paper-doll like/dress up game using Picrew for a 2-day game jam in 2020. The theme for the jam was death and the art style chosen was 1-bit. The picrew was related back to the theme by loosely taking inspiration of elements of goth fashion and sprinkling skull and vampire imagery.The Picrew can be played here.

Out For The Glory Music Video

Out for the Glory is a song released by Helloween, a 7-piece German power metal band. The music video was made in collaboration with Helloween, Nuclear Blast and RMIT University. The music video was animated by RMIT University students in 2021. Sunny worked as an animator and lead compositor on the project.
